Comparison between a non-hydrostatic numerical model and analytic theory for the two-layer exchange flows

چکیده
Recently, Armi and Riemenschneider (2008) improved the two-layer hydraulic theory and applied it to the co-located sill and contraction. The main goal in this study is to compare the new theory with a non-hydrostatic numerical model. To this end, the numerical model is employed for two different geometries. The first geometry is steep topography with co-located contraction and the second geometry is a much gentler slope so that the non-hydrostatic forces are reduced. It is found that the model captures the two control points, a topographic control at the crest and a virtual control on the dense reservoir side described by the theory. The flow is subcritical in between these control points. There is agreement between the modeled and analytical interface heights in the gentler topography. 2010 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

A Non-linear Static Equivalent Model for Multi-layer Annular/Circular Graphene Sheet Based on Non-local Elasticity Theory Considering Third Order Shear Deformation Theory in Thermal Environment
In this paper, it is tried to find an approximate single layer equivalent for multi-layer graphene sheets based on third order non-local elasticity theory. The plates are embedded in two parameter Winkler-Pasternak elastic foundation, and also the thermal effects are considered. A uniform transverse load is imposed on the plates. Applying the non-local theory of Eringen based on third order she...
متن کاملComparison of the hyperbolic range of two-fluid models on two-phase gas -liquid flows
In this paper, a numerical study is conducted in order to compare hyperbolic range of equations of isotherm two-fluid model governing on two-phase flow inside of pipe using conservative Shock capturing method. Differential equations of the two-fluid model are presented in two forms (i.e. form I and form II). In forms I and II, pressure correction terms are hydrodynamic and hydrostatic, respecti...
متن کاملEffects of coupling on turbulent gas-particle boundary layer flows at borderline volume fractions using kinetic theory
This study is concerned with the prediction of particles’ velocity in a dilute turbulent gas-solidboundary layer flow using a fully Eulerian two-fluid model. The closures required for equationsdescribing the particulate phase are derived from the kinetic theory of granular flows. Gas phaseturbulence is modeled by one-equation model and solid phase turbulence by MLH theory. Resultsof one-way and...
متن کاملConservation Law Modeling of Entrainment in Layered Hydrostatic Flows
A methodology is developed for modeling entrainment in two-layer shallow water flows using non-standard conserved quantities, replacing layer-wise mass conservation by global energy conservation. Thus the energy that the standard model would regularly dissipate at internal shocks is instead available to exchange fluid between the layers. Two models are considered for the upper boundary of the f...

The three-phase-lag model and Green–Naghdi theory without energy dissipation are employed to study the deformation of a two-temperature fiber-reinforced medium with an internal heat source that is moving with a constant speed under a hydrostatic initial stress and the gravity field. The modulus of the elasticity is given as a linear function of the reference temperature. The exact expressions ...
